Robyn’s session: extending the care giving attitude to yourself, too
Robyn Langevin is the talent/beauty/brains/powerhouse business owner of Robyn Lynn Makeup Artistry has been operating business in the beauty industry for 20 years. She started her career in 2005, initially working with grads and boudoir photography clients, and has been levelling up her skills and expanding her repertoire ever since. She now has a huge clientele and provides hair and makeup artistry for anything ranging from a special night out to the most special night of your life.
Robyn joined me last year at my Red Deer photo studio as a hair and makeup artist where we work together with clients to plan hair and makeup looks that serve the client to the highest degree - make the client look and feel amazing, and make the hair and makeup coalesce with the vibe of the session, which is a huge part of providing a stellar experience for women entering this space and contributes hugely to the feel of the finished images.
The idea of “service” is one that Robyn and I have talked a lot about. In her career, Robyn spends a lot of time with women on their special occasions who express a disconnect between the woman they see in Robyn’s mirror and the one they see in their own mirror at home. When Robyn has completed your hair and makeup look, you sometimes feel like someone else. Like a version of yourself you had perhaps forgotten about or maybe didn’t know even existed. And Robyn has noticed that women in this position just feel great about it.
“When you look good, you naturally just feel good” Robyn explains. She takes her own joy from the realization that with each application she is bringing beauty and joy into the life of someone else. And sometimes, you just don’t realize how important that small act can be.
Robyn recently joined me in the studio for her own photo session. We planned for some headshots and Robyn brought in a few outfits that made her feel powerful. We played around with fabric blowing in the wind, she tried on necklaces and accessories from my studio closet. The pace was slow and relaxed, the music was comforting, and the resulting images were laced with relaxed beauty and authenticity. And when she saw them, Robyn realized that she had really needed to extend that attitude of caregiving and service she provides to her clients to herself, too.
After her session, Robyn said “I am really shy getting my photo taken. I prefer to be in the background, unnoticed and working away. [Then] I had this amazing, life changing photoshoot with my friend and work colleague Carmen who really found something in (me) ON CAMERA.” Robyn recognized that she’s gone through challenges recently, and credits her career with pushing her forward every day. When she did her own hair and makeup and had her own portrait experience, things really clicked for her. “This photographer captured my soul and she made me see beauty in myself. This was an incredible experience for my mind, body and soul.”
Robyn operates her business out of a small studio, but she also travels to her clients if that makes it easier on them. If you want to book her for your wedding or special event, get in touch with her on Instagram or Facebook
